Surrendering a Pet

Thank you for visiting our surrender page. We understand that this can be a heart-wrenching and deeply personal decision, and we want you to know that you’re not alone. Our team is here to listen, support, and guide you through this process with compassion.

As a foster-based organization, our ability to take in animals depends on available foster homes and the specific needs of each pet. While we truly wish we could say “yes” to every request, we must carefully ensure that each animal is a good fit for our program and current resources.

If we’re unable to accept your pet, please know we will do everything we can to help you find solutions, whether that means providing resources to help you keep your companion or assisting you in safely rehoming them. You and your pet matter to us, and we’re here to help however we can.

Our surrender application contains the necessary information we will need to determine if we can place your animal in our foster system.

Please see the following conditions before completing the pet surrender form.

Conditions of Surrender or Adoption Return

We accept dogs and cats from Minnesota in our pet surrender program. All animals 16 weeks of age and older should be up to date on their rabies vaccinations before being accepted into our foster program. Please contact your vet directly to have them send over official vet records with exam notes. We will not be able to process your application without these records and cannot accept copies of invoices. We cannot guarantee acceptance of your animal.

We do not accept non-Bond Between animals with the following:

  • Animal aggression issues, including dogs and cats that must be the only animal in the home due to behavior issues

  • Human aggression issues, including children and adults

  • Multiple bite history of a person or other animals

  • A Dangerous Dog or Potentially Dangerous Dog declaration by the county

  • Severe separation anxiety

  • Cat urination/defecation outside of the litter box

  • Animals from states other than Minnesota

**We have extremely limited capacity to accept surrendered bully breeds and adult dogs over 35 lbs, due to an increase in surrenders and a decline in available fosters. We will prioritize surrender applications for animals previously adopted from The Bond Between.**

Return Policy Overview

  1. 30-Day Return Period: If you need to return your adopted pet within 30 days of adoption, we offer adoption credit equivalent to your adoption fee, minus a $100 processing fee. This credit can be used for a future adoption through The Bond Between once the return is finalized.  The credit must be used within 1 year.

  2. Returns After 30 Days: Unfortunately, if the return occurs after 30 days, we are unable to provide any refunds or credits.

  3. Reaching Out to Us First: If you find yourself in a situation where you can no longer keep your pet, we kindly ask that you contact us as soon as possible. We will do our best to assist you in finding a solution.

  4. Foster Care Availability: As a foster-based organization, we strive to have enough foster homes available for every situation, but we cannot guarantee immediate accommodation for returned animals. If we cannot find a foster home for your pet within 7 days, you are welcome to reach out to other rescues or private parties to help find a new home for your pet. Please note, because of our foster based program, we cannot always guarantee placement.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work together to ensure that every pet receives the love and care they deserve. Thank you for being a part of The Bond Between family!
